Autonomije / Autonomies brings together theoretical essays and exhibition documentation exploring automation, machine autonomy, and the relationships between technology, society, and ecosystems. Edited by Kristian Lukić and Sunčica Pasuljević Kandić, the bilingual publication follows the 2013 Autonomies exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina.
The catalogue presents Wonbin Yang’s Species series through project descriptions, an artist biography, and photographs of the exhibition installation. The text describes artificial creatures made from nonliving components and considers their imagined histories of emergence, adaptation, and evolution within urban environments.
Yang’s work is situated within the publication’s broader inquiry into technological ecosystems and the place of humans among increasingly autonomous machines. The project description also emphasizes the artist’s observation of how people and communities respond to these unfamiliar beings.
